Cognos Developer

Be a senior member of our professional services team. Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated and able to excel in a fast-paced “consulting” environment. The Senior BI Developer should have the ability to prioritize tasks and work concurrently on multiple tasks as well as the ability to create value-added relationships with the project team, the business team members, and other IT and Business teams at the executive and technology levels.

Many assignments will involve fairly complex technical design, often working with other developers and technical/business users. Implementation tasks may be very significant in scope and/or part of large departmental projects. Frequent business analysis work will be done as part of specification and design development with (business) end users. The individual will be responsible for a variety of software development tasks with very little direction from a Project Lead or Supervisor.

Skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills is mandatory

Minimum of 6 years of experience using Cognos products, with at least 3 years of experience using the Cognos 8 BI product suite. Cognos knowledge must include the entire suite: Query Studio, Analysis Studio, Report Studio, Metrics Studio, Event Studio; as well as PowerPlay, Data Manager, Transformer, Framework Manager, Cognos 8 administration (mandatory)

Experience with developing work estimates (level of effort) and work planning (scheduling, including assessment of dependencies and constraints), with proven ability to deliver high quality deliverables on time, and the ability to identify, escalate and resolve emergent “issues” in a timely and responsible manner (mandatory)

Consulting experience as an employee of a “Big 4” or other large consulting organization is a big plus.

Strong data modeling, data architecture, and analytical skills suite (mandatory)

Experience in the healthcare sector (desirable)

MBA or other equivalent degree, with an undergraduate degree in IT/engineering/science (desirable)

Resident in the Greater Los Angeles Area, preferably within reasonable commute distance from Orange County, CA (desirable). Will be expected to work from the Orange County office when not at a client site. Must be willing to go to client sites in So Cal as well as out of town as needed. Currently most clients are in Southern California
